Interoperability workgroup defines standard connections between EHRs and HIEs

On Nov. 8, the EHR/HIE Interoperability Workgroup, an organization of states and vendors focused on eliminating the barriers to sharing EHRs issued a set of technical specifications to standardize connections between healthcare providers, health information exchanges (HIEs) and other data-sharing partners. Growth in consumer EHR access signals shift in patient engagement

Results of a new study from Manhattan Research reveal that an estimated 56 million U.S. consumers have accessed their medical information on an EHR system maintained by their physician. Kansas hospital becomes first in state to receive Medicare EHR incentive payment

Morton County Health System, located in Elkhart, Kansas, became the first hospital in the state to receive stimulus funds under the Medicare EHR Incentive Program. The hospital recently received more than $1.4 million under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services program, which provides incentive payments to eligible professionals/hospitals and critical-access facilities that demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology.
